Since stimulus checks are still a big topic these days, I thought I'd do something different. Americans have been known to be weird and kooky when we want to be, especially if other people are watching on social media. In a land of excess, there isn't a limit to what kind of weird or useless stuff we can splurge on. I have the image in my head of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber with the big hat on walking down the sidewalk with beer, pinwheels, and a paddle ball game.
I found a list of quotes/tweets made by people who were considering buying stupid stuff. Also stupid stuff people actually bought. I'll share a few here. Everyone feel free to contribute:
"Why did we get our stimulus check and the first thing I bought was an inflatable dinosaur costume"
“Hear me out — Who wants to combine their stimulus checks with me, and we can buy a tiger,” writes one likely fan of “Tiger King.”
“Looking forward to using my #Stimuluscheck to purchase another AR-15 and some 30rd mags,” writes one gun lover.
One user bought luxury toilet paper and tweeted: "Y’all shouldn’t have given me that $1200"
One user literally bought a truck bed and turned it into a bed.
A Star Wars fridge of Han Solo frozen in carbonite.
Cowboy boot roller skates
Some of these were just jokes, but some were actual purchases or serious considerations. *facepalm*
