What kind of cheap or free hobbies are out there?

Since it looks like we'll be indoors even more so now that the cold is here, I want to find something to keep the cabin fever at bay, but I don't want to break the bank here. I've jumped head first into hobbies before and spent thousands of dollars on them over the years. Perhaps I'm looking for something active, I dunno. Also maybe something that doesn't take up too much space in my house. I hear leather working is pretty affordable and fun to do. Any ideas? What does everyone else do in their spare time?

A great hobby that doesn't require one penny (other than a good pair of shoes) is walking. I go on a walk every day and try to take a different route every time just to mix things up.

Some hobbies I enjoy indoors are jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and trying out a minimum of one new recipe a week. All three are affordable (although I sometimes find myself splurging on a really fun looking meal).

I'm not terribly good with my hands, so I've never gotten into woodwork, painting, or pottery, but I have friends who do and they swear by them. It's also fun because I'll barter some of our beef or lamb for a cutting board, serving platter, etc. It's a win-win for everyone.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I know a couple people that have gotten into bird watching. Again, it's not meant for everyone but it's almost entirely free. Other than that, my person favorite hobby that wouldn't require too much extra cash would be drawing. A decent pack of pencils and a sketchbook is all you'd need to get started.
