Are AirBNBs cheaper than hotels?

I've considered a few options while planning a vacay during the big shut-in. I've considered renting a camper or RV and hitting the road with my wife, or possibly staying in an air bnb (one that preferably isn't connected to the owners room or house for health reasons). I've never stayed in one. Hotels are kind of out of the question right now, but I'm wondering if air bnbs are an economical choice, or if I should consider the RV/camper trailer option again. Anybody? Is it a good alternative?

Why are hotels out of the question? Airbnb is usually cheaper, but hotels are more convenient and trustworthy.

    I'm thinking of recirculated air.
