I've done this and know at least one other person who has. Believe it or not, if a check or a rebate was sent to you and it didn't make it, it may be still floating around out there. This is a great way of possibly putting some money in your pocket that you didn't know you had, and is rightfully yours. I have two sites for you: Missingmoney.com and Unclaimed.org. Both are free and pretty simple to use.

Keep in mind, that this is FREE, and you don't have to hire someone or pay fees to get what is rightfully your own property. These sites act as a middleman. Also, each state has its own site dedicated to lost financial properties. I would suggest trying unclaimed.org first because the site takes you directly to your state's site.

Even if nothing comes up, you may want to check for your family members as well and notify them if you find something. Has anyone else used these services before? If so, how was your experience?

I have actually. Does work. I didn't have anything out there, but it's cool this is a free service. Definitely recommend giving it a go.
