Hospital bills are out of control

I don't understand why healthcare is so expensive here. How have we not gotten to the point of universal health care yet? It's a much better system for absolutely everyone, except of course those who make billions charging us 10 thousand dollars for simple procedures every chance they get. Every single thing is so absurdly priced that it makes you terrified to go get any healthcare at all. I plan on following some advise I got and fighting this bill. There are a few different ways to do it, but the one I heard the most is to simply bargain with them. I've been told that they will almost always lower the price a significant amount with just a little bit of conversation.

The first thing that runs through someone's mind when they get injured shouldn't be fear of how much it's going to cost them.

I have been seriously down on the entire healthcare system in the US ever since I read Steven's Brill's Time article 'The Bitter Pill: Why Medical Bills Are Killing Us'. Details why things cost so much and how corrupt the whole system really is. I don't know how much has really changed since he wrote that in 2013. I think some things have gotten better, especially with the ACA, but the major issues are still very much there.

I'm with ya. It's crazy. I don't see universal healthcare happening any time soon but it would literally be a lifesaver if it did.
