Yahoo! is already asking the question, so I figured we could discuss it here:
Will there be a fourth stimulus check, after the current third round?
There is definitely an appetite for another round of stimulus checks in Congress, but it's almost 100% only supported by Democrats. But with the latest round of stimulus passing without any Republican support in the Senate it is possible the Dems can do whatever they collectively want. So it's conceivable we could get yet another check, a fourth one.
I would bet against it happening given how long it took for a third check to get approved and with a goal of mid July when things can start to get somewhat back to normal economy wise, but it is in play. What are the chances you think it'll happen? How much do you think it could be and any guess on a timetable?
If I were a betting man I'd bet that we're pretty much done with additional stimulus checks unless we have some other huge surge where we have to go back into shutdown. That's unlikely now that the vast majority of the most vulnerable have already gotten their shots. I'm not opposed to additional stimulus at all, but I just don't see it happening.
One thing I can see happening is the extension of the weekly unemployment supplement if the unemployment rate is still uncomfortably high towards the end of when the additional benefits expire, but even there I think it's unlikely because I have a pretty strong feeling the economy is going to rebound pretty strongly this year. People are itching to get back to normal and normal is dining out, going to movies, and spending some extra money if they are able to.
