It's taken months and months of negotiations, but congressional leaders finally announced a deal to send out a second round of stimulus checks to most Americans. The final details are still being worked out, but the tentative agreement will send $600 checks to most Americans and an additional $600 per qualified dependent.

Perhaps more importantly, the deal also includes an additional $300/week in unemployment benefits for people out of work for no fault of their own. Gig and contract workers will also be eligible for the additional benefits.

What do you think? I'm pretty frustrated that the amount is so low considering the amount of people who are really struggling in this country, but then again something is better than nothing.

Agreed, it's rather disappointing and a little insulting to those who are financially hurting out there because of all of this. Then again, I'm surprised they even included it in the bill at all since Republicans have been pushing back on it so much for the past 6 months. It's surprising that they finally are coming to an agreement on including it.

It's really hard for me to not see this as anything more than a slap in the face to every American struggling in this country. I can't believe that it's taken this long for them to reach a deal that only includes $600.

Congress passed the stimulus check legislation last night and it is now awaiting President Trump's signature. He has signaled that he'll sign it today.

The checks will be $600 for most Americans, with an additional $600 per eligible dependent.

Individual filers making up to $75,000 would be eligible for the entire $600, but that number decreases the more money you make, phasing out entirely at $87,000. The numbers are doubled for couples filing jointly.

Parents who have dependent children 16 and under will also be eligible to receive an additional $600/dependent child.

The reason the capped amount is lower this time around is because the stimulus check is half of the initial amount that was passed in April, but the formula to distribute the checks remains the same.

Maybe we'll get $2k at the end of this, but good news is they are starting to send money out today. Paper checks if you don't have your bank acct setup for dd, and dd if you do. Let's see how fast the IRS works this time.

I personally feel that McConnell is simply running out the clock. He knows that time is on his side and I think he'll only bring it up for a vote if a good number of Republicans come forward in favor of additional stimulus checks, which only a few have so far.

It looks like the first round of checks are being deposited today (12/30/2020). That's good news for those people who have bills due on the 1st. I just hope they get these checks deposited and mailed out as quickly as possible. It would be great if they are able to get the vast majority of them sent out before the deadline next month.
