White House Proposes $600 Stimulus Checks For Most Americans

The Trump Administration inserted itself into ongoing negotiations between Congressional Democrats and Republicans by proposing its own stimulus plan, part of which would include a $600 stimulus check for most Americans and an additional $600 per qualifying child. However, the Administrations proposal does not have any additional weekly unemployment benefits. The additional unemployment benefits have been a financial lifeline for many Americans currently out of work for no fault of their own.

Don't get too excited about getting a second stimulus check anytime soon though. Top Congressional Democrats immediately stated the proposal was a nonstarter and said the lack of additional unemployment insurance for out of work Americans “unacceptable.”

If I were a betting man, which I'm not, I would say the possibility of getting a second stimulus check before the end of the year is slim to none. The two sides just seem too far apart on the issue. However, bipartisan negotiations are ongoing and, while these negotiations currently don't have a second stimulus check included, they do include additional unemployment assistance. Time will tell if they are able to hammer out a deal or if political headwinds make it impossible to do so.

Do you agree that the potential for a second stimulus check anytime soon is small or do you think I'm being too fatalistic and that something will get done? I'd love to be proven wrong, but I unfortunately don't think I will be.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I actually think there's a chance we'll be getting an additional stimulus check before the end of the year. Maybe a 50-50 chance.

The reason I think it's at least possible stimulus checks will be a part of a compromise package is because members of both political parties have expressed support for them. Unfortunately, those members aren't part of the current negotiations going on, but if enough Republicans and Senators say that there has to be some form of stimulus check in a stimulus bill then maybe, just maybe a check will be included in the final package.

Pretty much thinking the same thing. Not holding my breathe but do think its at least possible.
